The reason why Paramount switched over to HD-DVD

Well, this was pretty obvious, though now it's confirmed - The reason why Paramount studios have switched exclusively over to Micrsoft's HD-DVD, leaving Blu-Ray, is becasue they were given $150 million.

Paramount and DreamWorks for HD-DVD

Paramount and Dreamworks has just announced that their next gen DVD of choice is going to be HD-DVD, and they apparently won't release anything on Blu-Ray. This is very good for Microsoft, and very bad for Sony for obviously reasons.

The Three Stooges Collection: Years 1-3 announced

Sony just announced that they'll be releasing The Three Stooges Collection: Years 1-3 for DVD on October 30, 2007, for a fair price of $24.96. It'll include the following titles -

1934 - Woman Haters, Punch Drunks (only short actually written by the Stooges), the Oscar-nominated Men in Black, and Three Little Pigskins.

1935 - Horses' Collars, Restless Knights (first "triple-slap" in a Stooge short), Pop Goes the Easel (first film for frequent director Del Lord), Uncivil Warriors, Pardon My Scotch (first Stooge short to use "Listen to the Mockingbird" as its theme song), Hoi Polloi , and Three Little Beers.

1936 - Ants in the Pantry (features silent star Clara Kimball Young), Movie Maniacs (features Charlie Chaplin's first wife Mildred Harris), Half-Shot Shooters (first short in which the Stooges get killed), Disorder in the Court (features the famous "swearing in" scene with Curly), A Pain in the Pullman (the longest short of the series), False Alarms, Whoops, I'm an Indian, and Slippery Silks.

The King of Kong to be released on DVD.

While I'm going to see the movie when it comes to Kansas City, it's still great to know that The King of Kong: A Fistfull of Quarters, which has been critically acclaimed, will be released on DVD, according to an interview with the creator which was released yesterday.

Well, the main thing I'm looking forward to is Doctor Strange, though sadly it comes out when I'm out of town, so I 1. Won't be able to watch it soon and 2. Sarah Silverman coming to DVD

The first season of Sarah Silverman has been announced to be released on DVD on October 2 of this year. I've seen all six episodes... they can be funny at times, though overall it's not a classic. It'll cost $19.99, and will feature a few bonus stuff including a Karaoke Sing Along, deleted scenes, and audio commentary. Meh, I'd pass on this one.

Out today on DVD (MUPPETS season 2!!!)

Make fun if you must, but really - the Muppets are some of the greatest things that have ever been created. I've already got Season 1 of the Muppets (on release day, mind you!), months and months back, maybe a year, so I'm obviously going to get season 2, which features Ms. Piggy on the cover (Hopefully it'll be fuzzy like the Kermet DVD one last year).

Spider-Man movie trilogy announced for Blu-Ray.

The Spider-Man movies have been, obviously, some of the most successful super hero movies of all time. The first was great, the second was outstanding, andl, well, the third was, frankly, crappy, though that shouldn't make you hate the first two. It's great that we're going to be able to see the whold trilogy on Blu-Ray... or atleast those who have it (I don't).

Anyway, here are the details - The DVD set will include Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3. It will be released on October 30th of this year, alongside the DVD release of the third film. It'll include tons of bonus content, including 11 featurettes that deal with the making of all three movies...

RUMOR - Possible new animated Batman movie?

So apparently a new, direct to DVD movie that takes place between Batman Begins and the upcoming The Dark Knight will be released prior to The Dark Knight. Here's the possible document -

Futurama: Bender's Big Score's release date announced!

So earlier last month at Comic-Con it was revealed that the new, DVD only Futurama movie would be released in November. Well, now it has an official date - November 27, 2007.

Also, here's some story info right from Fox -

"As Xmas 3007 approaches, the Futurama crew must fight to save Earth in an epic battle against nudist alien Internet scammers. When the evil naked aliens launch a cyber-attack on Planet Express, they make a shocking discovery: the secret of time travel, mysteriously tattooed on Fry's buttocks. Using their devious nudist software to control Bender, they repeatedly send the beer-fueled robot back in time to loot Earth of its greatest treasures. Bender's rampage through history has shocking repercussions when he encounters Al Gore (guest-starring as himself) during the 2000 Presidential recount. Meanwhile, Leela finds true love, a beloved crew member suffers an embarrassing decapitation, and Fry learns deep secrets about his destiny and his buttocks."

ComicCon 2007 - Futurama information

In my opinion, Futurama is even better than The Simpsons. I can watch the episodes over and over, and while it may not be as great as South Park, it's still a great series. When it was announced that they'd bring the show back, I was filled with joy, and now one of the people working on the show announced that the first Futurama movie (which will go straight to DVD), will be released in November of this year.

And on the subject of Matt Groening (SP?) movies, I'll write a review on The Simpsons movie tomorrow, okay.

ComicCon 2007 - Blade Runner: The Final Cut edtion

WAAAHOOO! If you hadn't already guessed, I'm a fan of Harrison Ford's Blade Runner. Well, guess what! This December (18th), Blade Runner will be getting three different DVD sets. One will include 2 discs, another 4, and... ohmygosh... the other will include five totally awesome discs!!!

What will these discs include? Well: a three-and-a-half-hour documentary called 'Dangerous Days', 45 minutes of deleted scenes, features about script development, conceptual design, TV spots, and more!

It's coming out for the celebration of its 25th anniversary.

ComicCon 2007 - Naruto coming to ComicCon

VIZ Media has announced a new campaign called Naruto Nation which will highly increase the publication frequency of their Naruto manga.

The campaign will be at Comic-Con, and will feature new Naruto video games, DVDs, Manga, and more.

My Name is Earl: Season 2 DVDetails

New details of My Name is Earl: Season 2 DVD have been revealed. First off, the DVD will be released on September 25, 2007, and will feature 22 episodes. It'll cost a whopping $49.98, though will include tons of special features, all of which can be seen at the link below!

ComicCon 2007 - Genius and Weinstein to promote DVD's at ComicCon

Genius Products and The Weinstein Company have just announced their plans to go to Comic-Con later this week to promote a few of their upcoming DVD's, including the Grindhouse movies, Death Proof, Planet Terror, Hard Boiled, last Hurrah for Chivalry, and Crime Story. Other movies will also be on display by the aforementioned companies as well. Look below to see their meet-and-greet sessions:

Out today on DVD!

Nothing outstanding comes out this week. If you're looking for a great DVD movie, then I'd hold out tell next week when 300 and Hot Fuzz is released, though the release list today is, in my opinion, pretty stale with no real hits. I'm sure there are plenty of Stargate fans out there, and I don't really know anything about Weeds. The Number 23 is a film I didn't see, though from multiple reviews I've heard it's supposed to be pretty bad.
